Old age spiritualizes people naturally. Ram Dass spoke of this, as did Rudolf Steiner. And it was something I witnessed first-hand with my mother in the final stretches of her life. She wasn’t someone engaged in “self-growth” or spiritual practices, but living to an old age relaxed her need to be in control, softened her grip, and allowed the light to get in. It might have taken until her dying days for this to happen, yet it holds a promise for even the most recalcitrant amongst us. And it reminds us that there is far more going on as we age than we usually assume or are aware of. It is more than just a demise; there is a point and purpose to growing old, and the way we do it can feed those who come after us.

I invite you to listen to the clip above where we meet 95-year-old Clara, who says, “You know, dear, I sit here praying for the world all the time.”
