Dear Friends,
I’m walking towards the door in the shadows, I’m getting close to the door, reaching for the door knob, about to touch…
… and then awake suddenly.
This dream comes as I stand at a very real threshold. The Call to the Far Shore: Carrying our Loved Ones Through Dying, Death, and Beyond, the book I’ve been writing on and off for five years, will be published by Inner Traditions in a few short months. I feel vulnerable and occasionally terrified. This writerly part of my life has not been readily shared with friends and family. Now, I will be having conversations, on weighty topics, in front of people—people I don’t know!
Makes me want to hide under a blanket.
But. This dear book has a life. And it needs honouring and tending so it can find its way in the world. So, I’m finding my boldness and excitement at this next frontier.
I woke up this morning with the idea that I need company now. A trusted circle of people that I can speak with and with whom I can find my voice.
Substack has become a new vehicle for people to write and reflect and to find their community. I’m going to dive in and see what happens. Knowing that I have a few friends out there that might help me along by providing comments and feedback gives me courage.
I’ll be writing something related to the themes of my book, and sending it out once every two weeks, or so.
Please press the subscribe button (free) if you are interested in learning more about The Call to the Far Shore and being part of a community conversation around:
Being with dying more fully and more consciously before we die.
Tending our loved ones at the time of death and immediately after in a way that honours their bodies and spirits.
Continuing the connection with our loved ones after death, and by doing so awakening to the realm of our ancestors.
Feel free to pass this on.
Pre-orders of The Call to the Far Shore are now available through your local bookstore, Amazon, and most major booksellers.

There is magic in every new beginning, especially at this deep mid-winter time.
The door is opening…
Please join me on the adventure!
